Benefits for the environment through the implementation of the Operational Plan
The intensification of agriculture has led to the degradation of soils, as shown by the reduction of organic matter, the increase in salinity, acidification, compaction and erosion. Relatively small recovery of soil organic C is possible to prevent climate change. The use of fertilizers causes water pollution with nutrients, resulting in eutrophication and degradation of their quality. It is also a fact that the largest percentage of global emissions of the greenhouse gas N2O occurs from the soil. Soil degradation is accompanied by a reduction in biological fertility, the ability of soil organisms to carry out nutrient cycles and keep soils productive.
The transition to a lower input, sustainable and more environmentally friendly agriculture requires a different management of soil and fertilizers. The use of DMF inoculants with “in-situ” production involves a new approach with minimization of fertilizers to maximize the benefit of DMFs and increase soil organic matter while maintaining high yields. In addition, DMFs contribute to the creation of better soil structure and naturally enhance soil microbial activity, while increasing soil organic matter themselves contribute to soil carbon storage.
